3:20 PM Brain-Centric Layers of Protection™: Installing Countermeasures and Defenses Against Human Performance Error

Organizations commonly put controls in place to address typical workplace exposures that can cause harm. They also attempt to make use of human performance tools and other measures that aim to address human error. Unfortunately, these efforts often don’t yield tangible results as evidenced through operational reliability, including the absence of unplanned events. In this session, we examine through the lens of neuroscience how human error can manifest within the work system. We explore solutions to alter work to better suit the human brain for optimal high-performance reliability. Attendees will gain:
An understanding of how the human brain is designed to make errors, mistakes, and lapses that impact human and organizational performance
An approach to human factors interventions powered by installed brain-aligned work, workers, and workplaces
Direction on uncovering reliability gaps that impact operations and lead to injury, upset, catastrophe, or reputational damage
Action steps to take better control of operational results including safety, quality, and right-first-time performance
